Assist with patient intake, including obtaining and recording vital signs, medical history, and current health concerns.
Prepare patients for examination by physicians or other healthcare providers. Assist with physical exams and minor procedures as needed.
Administer medications, perform basic laboratory tests, and provide patient education on health and wellness topics.
Administrative Duties:
Schedule patient appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate referrals to specialists or other services.
Maintain and update patient records accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Process insurance claims, manage billing, and handle patient inquiries regarding their accounts or medical services.
Clinical Support:
Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment. Ensure that examination rooms are clean and properly stocked.
Perform routine laboratory tests, such as blood draws or urinalysis, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
Assist with minor surgical procedures and provide post-procedure care and instructions to patients.
Communication and Coordination:
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers. Address patient concerns and provide support during visits.
Coordinate with other healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care and efficient operation of the practice or facility.
Compliance and Safety:
Follow infection control procedures and maintain a safe and sanitary environment in accordance with healthcare regulations.
Stay current with medical procedures, techniques, and best practices through ongoing education and training.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a medical assistant training program or certification (e.g., CMA, RMA) is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in a medical assistant role or healthcare setting is highly desirable.
Skills: Proficiency in medical terminology, clinical procedures, and EHR systems. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare practices, patient confidentiality, and infection control procedures. Familiarity with medical billing and coding is a plus.
